The HIP Board of Directors held their Winter Board Meeting in Miami, FL on January 27-28, 2005.  During the meeting, the board discussed a number of important issues, such as the program design and implementation strategy of the next stage of the Funders’ Collaborative, approval of the 2004 financial report and the 2005 budget.

During the first day, the Dade Community Foundation, led by Ruth Shack, hosted a breakfast for HIP board members and staff.  The breakfast included a report on the Dade Community Foundation’s efforts on the fight against HIV/AIDS through their Community AIDS Partnership titled HIV/AIDS In Greater Miami A New Era – A New Resolve.

The Knight Foundation and Mellon Bank each hosted a day of meetings respectively, which in addition to official business included two panels.  The first panel looked at the growing significance of the Latino vote in the United States (click here to see documents from this presentation), while the second panel focussed on transnationalism.  During the second panel, board members David Valenzuela and Jorge Villalobos, along with Ana Maria Petrini (Argentine funder) provided an overview of transnationalism, followed by a presentation on the Argentine site’s achievements through the Funders’ Collaborative.

Mellon Bank hosted an evening reception for the Board and our first cohort of South Florida grantees. The reception provided HIP members, our grantees and others present with a great networking opportunity.
