HIP celebrated its Annual Membership Meeting on Sunday, May 7 at the Council on Foundations Annual Conference in Pittsburgh. After electing new Board members, recognizing retiring Board members, and hearing a presentation on the new five-year strategic plan, HIP members and colleagues heard a lively discussion of immigration and transnational funding featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning author Sonia Nazario, author of Enrique's Journey.

Gloria Rubio-Cortes and Sandra Bass Douglas Patino and Ana Gloria Rivas-Vazquez
Author Sonia Nazario tells the story of writing Enrique's Journey and its meaning for the current immigration debate. Panelists (l. to r.) Ron Gallo, Tara McKenzie Sandercock, and Maria Teresa Rojas discuss the national immigration debate, its implications for philanthropy, and models of transnational giving that address the root causes of migration.
Sonia Nazario signed copies of her book after the meeting. HIP members speak with Sonia Nazario regarding her work.
