In November of 2006, Hispanics in Philanthropy and the Apoyo Fund of the Westchester Community Foundation hosted a breakfast program on Latino philanthropy.  The panel, which included Marta Tellado of the Ford Foundation, Catherine Marsh of the Westchester Community Foundation, Roberto Ramirez, founder of The Jesus Guadlupe Foundation and Diana Campoamor of Hispanics in Philanthropy, discussed the idea of philanthropy by and for the Latino community, and the importance of making strategic investments in our communities.  Members of the Apoyo Fund committee updated attendees on the work of the Fund to date and ways to get involved in its future.

Since its founding in 1983, part of HIP’s mission has been to increase the participation of Latinos in philanthropy.  This includes increasing the visibility of, encouraging, and engaging Latino donors at all levels.  Hispanics in Philanthropy is partnering with the Apoyo Fund through our Strategic Donor Partnerships project, a new initiative through which we are working with Community Foundations to engage Latino donors in their local communities.
