Ana Gloria Rivas-Vázquez is Vice President & Chief Philanthropy Officer for Hispanics in Philanthropy.  An attorney and former journalist, Ana Gloria has more than 14 years of fundraising experience as well as 18 years of experience in communications.  Her fundraising experience includes developing and implementing fundraising plans; cultivating and soliciting major gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations; and working with board volunteers.  Ana Gloria has served as Director of Development and Communications for the Dade Community Foundation and as Vice President for Development and External Relations for St. Thomas University.  With an expertise in the giving traditions of Latinos, Ana Gloria is a frequent presenter on fundraising in diverse communities and other issues relating to Latinos.  Having conducted extensive research on the subject, she authored a chapter on Latino giving traditions in a book titled Nuevos Senderos: Reflections on Hispanics and Philanthropy.  Ana Gloria received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Georgetown University and her juris doctor cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law. 

 

With a long-standing belief in the critical role of the independent sector in civil society, Ana Gloria has served on local and national boards of nonprofits, foundations and affinity groups.  Presently, she is vice chair of the Key Biscayne Community Foundation, which she co-founded, and founder of Smart Women with Spare Change, a women's giving circle.  A native Miamian of Cuban-Venezuelan parents, Ana Gloria speaks Spanish fluently and has a working knowledge of French, Italian and Portuguese.  She has lived in Venezuela and in Italy, and worked with nonprofit organizations in El Salvador.  Ana Gloria lives with her husband and three children in Miami.
