Investing in Latin America: Possibilities for Impact on Both Sides of the Border
|
|
Transnationalism is having roots in two worlds, contributing energy, creativity and resources to both. Today, immigrants from Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and other parts of Latin America are building economic opportunity in the U.S. and in their countries of origin. To invest in development in Latin America is to invest in our hemispheric community. Through productive initiatives, opportunities are born along with new possibilities for growth, bringing communities together to create a better future.
Join Hispanics in Philanthropy as we launch our new transnational programs to promote opportunity across borders through support of productive initiatives in conjunction with local partners. We anticipate that this will be an important event to engage new partners and to have significant conversations about the many possibilities for impact on both sides of the border. Our objective is to gather some of the best minds on these issues for a lively discussion.
April 18th, 2007
1:30pm – 6:30pm
Ford Foundation
Auditorium – Level B 320 East 43rd Street (between 1st and 2nd Ave.) New York, NY 10017
At this event we will introduce our program Promoting Diaspora Support for Local Productive Initiatives in Latin America funded by the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) of the Inter-American Development Bank, an effort to create economic opportunities in Latin American communities that have been affected by high levels of migration. Under the program we will make grants to support local economic development projects backed by Latin American immigrant organizations from Argentina, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico and Nicaragua.
We will also introduce a complementary program funded by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation to work on economic development in Mexico and to support U.S.-based organizations in their efforts to invest in their home communities.
