Hispanics in Philanthropy Elects New Members to its Board of Directors
David Valenzuela elected as Chair
San Francisco, CA (April 30, 2004) – Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP) elected four new board members and reelected one current member to its Board of Directors on Monday, April 26th during its Annual Member Meeting held in Toronto, Canada.
“The proven leadership of these newly elected directors will help to guide HIP as we move forward with the next phase of the Funders’ Collaborative as well as with our Call to Action to members” said Diana Campoamor, president of Hispanics in Philanthropy. “As we work to increase our transnational work, David Valenzuela’s leadership as Chair of the Board will be fundamental and I look forward to working with him in this capacity.”
With the addition of the new members, there are now 24 directors on the governing board of Hispanics in Philanthropy.
The newly elected Directors are:
- Ann Christen, chief operating officer of the Charles and Helen Schwab Foundation
- Marilda Gandara, president of the Aetna Foundation
- Julene Perez Gonzalez, program officer of The David and Lucile Packard Foundation
- Tom Ross, executive director, Z Smith Reynolds Foundation
Elected to a second term:
- Wenda W. Moore, trustee of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation
In addition to the newly elected Directors, new Officers were appointed. David Valenzuela, president of the Inter-American Foundation was appointed Chair of the Board. Ligia Cravo, program officer with The William Randolph Hearst Foundation and Marilda Gandara, president of the Aetna Foundation were named as Vice Chairs.
Founded in 1983 to promote stronger partnerships between organized philanthropy and Latino communities, HIP is a transnational association of grantmakers, with more than 450 members representing corporate, public and private philanthropies.
Hispanics in Philanthropy’s mission is to serve as a catalyst to increase resources for the Latino and Latin American civil sector, as well as to increase Latino participation and leadership throughout philanthropy. Our work is designed to contribute to the greater effectiveness of philanthropy and to greater equity and diversity nationally. Our vision of the future reflects the organization’s diverse origins and projects a model of philanthropy that is congruent with the increasingly diverse global community in which we live.
