2005 Hispanic Magazine- Corporate 100
By Bridget McCrea
As one of the nation’s leading providers of health care, dental, pharmacy, group life, disability and long-term care benefits, Aetna joined the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility in 2004 as a corporate partner. HACR’s mission is to ensure the inclusion of Hispanics in Corporate America at a level commensurate with the population’s economic contributions. Aetna has also played an integral role in developing the Hispanics in Philanthropy Funders Collaborative, which has raised over $17 million nationally for capacity building of Latino organizations in 15 sites. A major fund provider, Aetna works closely with Hispanics in Philanthropy to develop the concept and implement it. In 2004, Aetna launched a pilot project with Marriott International to address the health-care concerns for its employees through education and outreach, with the goal of reducing health care disparities and optimizing communication between Spanish-speaking Marriott employees and their health-care providers.
