TALLAHASSEE - Governor Jeb Bush today recognized Cathy Anaya-Wolf of West Palm Beach as this week's Points of Light Award recipient.
"Through sincere dedication to children and families, Cathy has enriched the lives of many in the Palm Beach community," said Governor Bush. "Her exemplary efforts in serving not only Hispanics, but also South Floridians has earned her the recognition and admiration she deserves."
As the Director of ASPIRA for West Palm Beach, a Hispanic advocacy group promoting professionalism and cultural awareness, Cathy serves the families in her community. She promotes leadership through education, developing mentor-student relationships along the way and inspiring others to succeed. During the past 15 years, Ms. Anaya-Wolf has organized youth groups throughout South Florida, developing community service projects, providing counseling, and empowering youth to stay in school.
Ms. Anaya-Wolf is also active on various boards in her community, including the Education Commission of Palm Beach County, Palm Beach Community College Diversity Committee, and formerly served the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Palm Beach County. Additionally, she has received many awards for community, including the Belvedere Elementary School Outstanding Volunteer Award in 2003 and 2004; the Jefferson Davis Middle School Outstanding Volunteer Award in 2003 and 2004; the Bear Lakes Middle School Outstanding Volunteer Award in 2003 and 2004; National Volunteer Appreciation Week, April 28, 2003; and the Orchid Award from Mayor of West Palm Beach for Outstanding Community Service 1997.
"Ms. Anaya-Wolf has committed herself beyond the normal work week to reach out to youth and encourage and motivate them to reach higher educational goals," said Raul A. Martinez, President and CEO of ASPIRA of Florida, Inc. "She goes beyond the call of duty to walk the extra mile. Ms. Anaya-Wolf is a role model to young people."
The Governor's Points of Light Award, sponsored by Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises, recognizes Florida residents or organizations that demonstrate exemplary service to the community. Award recipients are announced weekly. A panel of judges comprised of leaders in the areas of volunteerism and service evaluate all nominations and make recommendations to the Governor.
