Hispanics in Philanthropy Announces Board Member Transitions

HIP Welcomes New Board Members Dr. Icela Pelayo, Jonathan Jayes-Green, Raul Moas, and Glenda Monterroza

Oakland, CA — This October, Hispanics in Philanthropy revealed their newest additions of Latinx philanthropists to join their Board of Directors. New board members include Dr. Icela Pelayo, Program Officer, Racial Equity & Community Engagement at W. K. Kellogg Foundation, Jonathan Jayes-Green, Vice President of Programs at Marguerite Casey Foundation, Raul Moas, Miami Program Director at Knight Foundation, and Glenda Monterroza representing the Lideres Alumni Network. 

“As we reflect on the strength of our collective corazón that have confronted layers of crises, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to our HIP Board for guiding us through such an eventful year. Their expertise and diverse perspectives are what drive HIP forward and what keeps us focused on our mission and vision for our future. That is why who serves on our Board is so critical. Every member of our Board speaks from their own lived experiences and together represent the multiplicity of our HIP community,” shared Ana Marie Argilagos, President & CEO of Hispanics in Philanthropy. “It is then with great excitement and honor that we welcome our newest Board Members to the HIP Familia and our collective corazón.”

Dr. Icela Pelayo is a Program Officer for Racial Equity & Community Engagement in the Office of the President at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF). Ms. Pelayo works on the foundation’s efforts of racial equity and community engagement to support thriving children, working families, and equitable communities. She serves as a strategic partner to community leaders of multi-sector, community collaborations implementing Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation (TRHT) efforts and leads the strategy and coordination for WKKF’s National Day of Racial Healing. She is also a former HIP Líder.

Jonathan Jayes-Green, Vice President of Programs at Marguerite Casey Foundation, is an organizer, orator, strategist, and believer. They are the former National Latinx Outreach Director for the Elizabeth Warren for President Campaign, where they focused on connecting the movement and the campaign in service of building big, structural change for Latinx and immigrant communities. They bring deep-rooted expertise in government as well as immigrant justice and multi-racial LGBTQA+ issues.

Raul Moas is the Miami Program Director at Knight Foundation where he leads the foundation’s initiatives in building a more dynamic and robust community of entrepreneurs and startups. Raul is passionate about the Greater Miami area and deeply involved in making his community a better place. He brings a wealth of investment and startup experience and knowledge to HIP.

Glenda Monterroza, Program Manager at Blue Shield of California Foundation. Glenda will represent HIP’s Líderes Alumni Network. 

The announcement included the creation of a newly formed Investment Committee chaired by Tony Mestres, and external investment experts Anabel Giron at The California Wellness Foundation, Manuel Monasterio at UBS, and Eli Velazquez at The Investors of Color Network. Argilagos added, “our newest trustees are bold and talented leaders in their fields and will be great assets to HIP. As the transition of HIP Board Members takes place, we are excited to welcome  existing board members into new roles and honor the leadership of those ending their chapter with us.”

After serving five years on the board, Efrain Escobedo has accepted the role of Chair of the HIP Board of Directors alongside Vice Chair Roy Cosme, who also graciously accepted the role.  Additionally, Christine Switzer and Hector Mujica join the Executive Committee as Secretary and At-Large Officer respectively. The transition also included former HIP Board Chair Mary Skelton Roberts, Cindy Rivera Weissblum, Gabriella Gomez,and Tara Sandercock observing their final commitments to HIP’s Board of Directors.
