HIP Statement of Solidarity with #BlackLivesMatter

Washington, D.C. (May 29, 2020): This moment in time requires us to make a clear and unequivocal demand that Philanthropy commits to embrace anti-racism and end white supremacy as a vehicle for our communities to thrive, beyond trying to survive. This year HIP’s Virtual Summit, #LatinosGive2020 is centering “Nuestro Momento Nuestro Poder, The Time is Now, The Power is Ours” as a call to action, not just for Latinos but for all vulnerable and marginalized communities that are consistently overlooked, demonized, targeted and ignored. We are frequently wrapped up in the narrative that dehumanizes our being, and our existence. Oppressive and racist systems use trauma as a way to control and disempower us and pin us against each other. Ya basta, enough is enough! It is time to think beyond surviving and look to building a world where all communities are thriving. We must come together in solidarity and move from being allies to being accomplices, chanting nuestro momento, nuestro poder, in our fight for equality. We will not stay silent as this administration continues to fan the flames of racism with calls for lethal violence against our communities. HIP condemns the senseless violence against Black Americans and Afro-Latinos, and we stand in solidarity with the right to protest for basic human rights and dignity. To all our friends, allies, and anyone feeling isolated in their pain, grief, and anger, HIP is here for you, and we commit to being part of the change.
